Music news Nov 2006 to Dec 2006

Junior Choir
Winter 2006

Hello Parents!
We are off to a great start! We have four new members! We hope to have 15 or more in our group each week. It is very exciting to see how we are growing!

The CD has a compilation of our anthems for November and December. It also has congregational worship service songs, songs with scriptural messages to help them in their daily life, and Advent / Christmas songs.

Please play the CD often - especially in the car and at bedtime. It will help them learn the songs much more quickly.

On November 19, the children will be singing "I Will Sing Songs of Joy" It is Track #2 on the CD. The Scripture for that day's worship service will be, I Samuel 1:4-20 2:1-10 (It is a way of joining Hannah as she expresses joy and thanks to God.)

Here are the lyrics for the children to learn:

I Will Sing Songs of Joy

I will sing songs of joy to the Lord.

For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised! Praise Him with my HEART, praise Him with my HEART. I will sing songs of joy to the Lord.

I will sing songs of joy to the Lord.
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised! Praise Him with my LIFE, praise Him with my LIFE. I will sing songs of joy to the Lord.

I will sing songs of joy to the Lord.
For great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised! Praise Him with my VOICE, praise Him with my VOICE. I will sing songs of joy to the Lord.

On December 10, the Junior Choir will sing with the Senior Choir. Ted Bradley has written a song for Gift Sunday and invited the Junior Choir to sing it with the Senior Choir . I will have more information when he gives me the music he wants to do.

How Parents can Share their Gifts with Junior Choir

There are many ways for parents to help with Junior Choir. Would you like to know how can you help? Please bring your child regularly! Give them a nudge even if they say they don't want to go! You can buddy up with another parent. You can even offer to pick up their a child if they can't come.

You can play the CD regularly! It helps the children to remember if you and your child read the written words of our anthem songs together and often. We try to celebrate birthdays once a month for the children born Sept, Oct, etc. You may want to sign up to bring a birthday snack.

With one or more other parents, you can organize a simple Advent party for Dec 17th at their regular rehearsal time. Parents can bake a cake with advent candles, create a couple of musical games, and share of their child's gifts. A child can play a song on the piano, sing, recite a poem, or share how their family celebrates Advent or Christmas together. They can also show an special ornament or craft they made commemorating the holiday.

You can plan a fall or winter outing for us. Share your musical talents with us whether it is vocal or instrumental. If you know sign language you can teach us the signs to go with our songs. You can even teach us a simple dance.

Help us to keep the traffic flow and conversation to a minimum while we rehearse. We are learning about the Bible in so many ways besides with music. So please do the homework handouts together! Thank you.

You can always help me by keeping my reward bag filled for the children. We want to make them feel good about all their hard work and the time they spend practicing after church. There is no need to something new for the kids. You can simply collect all those small trinkets they no longer want and we'll recycle them among their friends!

You can photograph our singers to make a bulletin board display. It makes them proud to see their pictures up in the Great room or some other part of the church.

You may photograph our singers so we can make a small album and send it to our Miral church friends in South Korea.

At bedtime, have your child pray for their fellow choir members (for those who were absent, or that all members have a safe week, etc.).

Feel free to offer your ideas and suggestions.
I want to make their Junior Choir experience a joyful one!
Rehearsals are a way of making time for God. Please make an attendance commitment.

Your child will:
  1. Build a strong relationship with God.
  2. Build a strong relationship with his/her church family. He or she will make new friends, while treasuring the old.
  3. Learn new responsibilities, build character, and learn new talents to take pride in.
  4. Learn to share their gifts with others. Learn scripture in a fun way.
  5. Share in celebrations (Birthdays, Advent, Lent). Gain confidence in performance.
  6. Learn love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
The rewards are great! All of our high school/college youth who made church attendance a priority are giving back in incredible ways to the different ministries of our church! Thank you for all of your support. If each of you can contribute in some small way, what a fantastic year we will have!

Here are some additional worship lyrics. The children can sing these along with the congregation.

Diverse In Culture, Nation Race

Diverse in culture, nation, race, we come together by your grace.

God let us be a meeting ground where hope and healing love are found.

God let us be a bridge of care connecting people everywhere.

Help us confront all fear and hate and lust for power that separate.

When chasms widen, storms arise, 0 Holy Spirit, make us wise.

Let our resolve, like steel, be strong to stand with those who suffer wrong.

God let us be a table spread with gifts of love and broken bread, where all find

welcome, grace attends, and enemies arise as friends.

Forever I Will Sing

Forever I will sing your praise, 0 God. Forever I will bless your holy name.

Forever I will sing your praise, 0 God, forever and ever, forever and ever. Repeat

Verse 1
I will praise you, God - always bless your name. Day after day - I will sing your praise.

Verse 2
Tender, just and kind - embracing all you've made. You care for all - we shall not be afraid.

Verse 3
Everybody thanks you - creation sings your praise. Telling of your glory - your power we proclaim.
